Chainmaille Stein V. 2.0 by ChainedBeauty
Chainmaille Stein V. 2.0
Mayhaps you remember my first beer stein: chainedbeauty.deviantart.com/a… Mayhaps you don't.  Either way, this one is new and improved.  How you ask?  Well for starters this one holds liquids, which I am told is a quality valued by many in their cups.

This time I built the maille around a liner (I used a reusable eco-mug) instead of vaguely building it around a pint glass.  It fits snugly inside, with just enough room to drink from it without sitting above the mug.

The first stein was my very first 3D project, and I've learned a lot in the last two years.  I was able to make a few changes that I felt were big improvements to the overall structure and design of the piece.  The first is the main body.  I used the Conundrum weave this time instead of CIR.  Its thinner, lighter and uses less material, and I was able to get the same structural capacity out of it by suring up the inside of the stein itself.  Another design choice I made was to give the piece a hollow bottom.  This was done to reduce weight while making it easier to remove the liner mug.

For this one, I used aluminum over steel.  Again, weight was the primary factor here, but a secondary concern was material cost.  Stainless Steel can get very expensive.

I was hoping to add a lid to the top to make it a proper stein, but time constraints forced me to forgo that.  Next time.

There's a ton more pictures, and I'll have more of them available on my Facebook page over the coming week, when I have time to edit them: www.facebook.com/ChainedBeauty…

I just got back from NDK, my local anime convention.  I was selling in the artist's alley, and I had a complete blast doing so.  I met so many nice people, got tons of encouraging words, and was really impressed with the talent that was on show there.  I'm definitely going to try and get back there next year.

This makes the second excursion out into the general populous, and I'm planning more.  Everything's kind of up in the air right now, but I'll be doing updates when I get more shows lined up.

But for now, I have a few other, bigger projects I'm working on.  Between custom orders and restocking my inventory, I'm going to be working to put an actual website together.  Some place where I can direct everyone to and put up high-res photos and such.

I also have two major projects I've been itching to get around to.  These are going to be year-long time sinks, but the payoff is going to be worth it.  In the end, I hope to really expand as an artisan because of these.  Although I have nothing to share yet, that will quickly change.  So stay tuned, because I'll be sharing so good stuff with you all soon.

Cheers, everyone.

I like working with my hands. The ideas and patterns in chainmail come pretty easily to me.

I'm of an odd sort. Besides this, I write, draw, play music and brew beer. I create. A maker of things both odd and amusing. Because I'm odd and amusing. I can also be pretty dumb at times.

when I grow up I want to be a time traveler.

I love this much more then actual original result work of the dragon keychain from M.A.I.L., I really love your larger scale dragon versions. For the long green and blue dragon what weaves did you use out of curiosity. I've been working on a big dragon myself based on the M.A.I.L. tutorial but really like the slight modifications you did. Also your tutorial which I stumbled upon after getting frustrated with the head and found your way of doing the head made more sense to me.

Its kind of like a dragonback, without the "back" part.  I made two 3-in-1 half persian weaves, one of them in reverse, and attached both of those with 3 rows of Euro 4-in-1 for the belly, and then used the scales to secure the other end.  I go into more detail about how I did it in the Body section of my tutorial.
